Millions of women are harassed every day by passers-by on the street, or perhaps an acquaintance, and with the increase in the number of victims of harassment and the spread of this phenomenon in recent times, you must know how to protect yourself from harassment.

The crime of sexual harassment of women:

According to the statistics of the United Nations Women's Organization (UN Women), 35% of women in the world have suffered either from physical harassment by relatives or by unknown persons at some point in their lives.

Also, 40-60% of women around the world are exposed to verbal harassment, especially in the Middle East and North Africa, every day.

While going to work or studying, performing daily tasks, or perhaps taking a short stroll, in public places and transportation, women are subjected to verbal and physical harassment, due to the lack of societal awareness of the seriousness of this phenomenon, which affects women’s psychological state and causes them to become depressed and terrified, and may prevent some from going out. To the street again, so that what women want most is how can I protect myself from harassment?

Therefore, “SAFERWINGS” offers you the most important ways to protect against harassment in order to maintain your safety:

    1- Carry a backpack:

Carry a backpack as much as possible, as it works to protect your back from any harassment, to prevent pushing in crowded places and contact, as it acts as a barrier between you and the harasser.

As you walk with confidence and firmness; This gives you the power to make the harasser hesitate to attack you verbally or physically.

2- Changing the direction of traffic:

If someone is chasing you, try to change direction immediately. You can also go to a nearby store or ask someone else for help.

    3- A tool for self-defense:

To protect against harassment, you should always carry a tool in your bag that helps you defend yourself, such as a spray that you can direct in the eyes of the assailant and spray forcefully, in addition to the electric shocker.

And if your voice is quiet, you cannot scream, you should carry a whistle or any other loud tool that attracts attention towards you if someone tries to approach you.

    4- Learn defensive moves:

In your spare time, you can go to a sports club, and receive some training that will protect you without being harmed. Be sure to learn some defensive movements, and if you have a little girl, you can take her with you and train her in some self-defense movements.

    5- Unknown places:

You should avoid going to unknown places, especially if you are alone, as you may be subjected to harassment or violence without a way to help, and unfortunately the lady may not know the entrances and exits of that place, which makes trying to run and escape difficult and perhaps impossible.

6- Standing in the right place:

If you're on public transportation or crowded places, stand in a safe spot with your back against a wall or something solid.

Likewise, in the metro or elevator, avoid standing in the middle. Choose a specific angle and rely on it until departure.

    7- Sufficient spacing:

You have to keep standing at a sufficient distance if you are talking to others, in the workplace or shopping centers or perhaps on the street, in order to avoid being harassed.

    8- Resorting to the camera:

If someone tries to abuse you verbally or physically, point the camera at him and film him immediately, this will make him panic and run away from you, and you can also report him if he assaulted you.

If you have been subjected to harassment, you can contact the Police in  your city.
